It's not often that a harness racing driver that has won the Little Brown Jug, North America Cup and the Breeders Crown shows up to drive at Batavia Downs Gaming, but Jody Jamieson will in the sulky Wednesday night, October 8.
The 31-year-old Jamieson will be in town to drive for charity when he competes in the winner takes all, $10,000 All-Stars drivers' challenge. Howard Parker currently leads the competition.
Helping out fundraisers like the one currently being held at America's oldest lighted harness track to benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is nothing new to Jamieson. He also participates in fundraisers at Clinton and Rideau Carleton racetracks.
Throughout his career that began in 1994, Jody Jamieson has won 4,202 races and his drives have earned over $52 million.
His biggest wins include the North America Cup and $480,000 Little Brown Jug with Tell All and the $760,968 Governor's Cup and $650,000 Breeders Crown with Santanna Blue Chip, a horse he also co-owns and is trained by his dad.
Born into a harness racing family, Jamieson, is the son of trainer Carl Jamieson--who conditions horses mostly on the Ontario racing circuit. His mother Debbie and sister Brandy both serve as caretakers and assistant trainers in the family business.
In 2001 Jody represented Canada in the World Driving Championship in Finland and Sweden, and won the competition. He was also runner-up in the 2003 competition. He is currently the leading driver in wins and money earnings on the Mohawk/Woodbine circuit.
The track lobby figures to be a busy place from 6:15pm. until 6:50pm.,when racing fans will get a chance to meet and greet Jamieson and he will be signing autographs.
