This afternoon, Trot Insider spoke with Jody Jamieson who confirmed that upper echelon owners Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz have bought into two-year-old Muscles Yankee colt Federal Flex.
"There was a deal finalized this afternoon which saw Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz acquire a good piece of Federal Flex," said Jamieson, who also noted that he is still holds a majority stake of the undefeated bay.
Prior to today's sale, Jamieson held a fifty per cent interest in Federal Flex. Fellow horseman Jeff Gillis and longtime Jamieson owner Ken Henwood had also owned a piece of the horse. Jody's father Carl trains Federal Flex, whom was originally purchased for $100,000 at the Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
With Libfeld and Katz now part of the ownership fray, Jamieson and Gillis have formed the Federal Flex Stable.
"Serious offers for this horse came in from Day 1," Jody told Trot Insider. "People were in impressed when he qualified the first time in 2:06 and then they were even more impressed the second time when he went in 2:01."
Jody told Trot Insider that he has never been behind a young horse of this calibre in his career. So far, the proof has been in the pudding. After capturing a preliminary division of The Bridger Trotting Series in 1:58.2, Federal Flex romped the final, posting an open-length victory in 1:56.4.
On Sunday, August 31 at Mohawk Racetrack, Federal Flex trotted away from his foes in a $111,636 division of the Champlain Stakes, recording a four and a half-length victory in a life's best 1:56.1.
"I had priced the horse high," Jody explained. "After he looked so good in his Champlain division, the interested parties just felt they needed to get a good piece of him.
"This horse has played the part all year. The one thing that I can't get over is how smart this horse is already. He's the smartest young horse I have ever been behind."
