Hopedale Last Bill overcame Post 8 to win Saturday afternoon’s featured $1,400 Open Trot at Charlottetown Driving Park for trainer/driver Joey Pineau.
The 3-2 favourite sat on the outside in third through the opening panels of :30.2 and 1:02.1 while Scarlett Destiny (Marc Campbell) set the tempo on top. The four-year-old gelded son of Lost Predator revved his engine and powered past the early pacesetter at the third quarter mark of 1:35. The eight-time winner reached the wire in 2:07.3 for his second consecutive Open victory.
The Beer Fairy (Gilbert Irwin Neill) finished one and a half lengths back in second and Flightofthephoenix (Kenny Arsenault) nabbed the show spot.
Hopedale Last Bill has earned just over $12,000 in his career for local owner Kenneth MacInnis.
