Sporty Callie ran her win streak to five for trainer Sue Marie Gangell when she went coast-to-coast in Flamboro Downs’ $8,200 third race on Wednesday evening.
The four-year-old Sportsmaster mare began her winning ways for Gangell and owner David Schneider on August 13th when priced at $5,400. Tonight, Sporty Callie left the Gangell camp on a winning note when she was claimed for $8,500 plus allowances.
With Post 5, Sporty Callie shot to the lead for driver Jean Rene Plante and she laid down panels of :28, :57.4 and 1:26.3. Under urging down the lane, Sporty Callie stayed game and held off a pocket-sitting White N Bright (Scott Coulter) by a diminishing three quarters of a length in 1:56.1.
In 25 seasonal starts, Sporty Callie has compiled a record of 10-2-1 with earnings of $36,254. Now a 13-time winner lifetime, she boasts a bankroll of $60,297.
