Harness Racing Youth League at Vernon

Vernon Downs finished its Harness Racing Youth League Camp on Thursday night with exhibition race between the five contestants.

First to arrive at the wire after the half mile race was Molly D'Agnostino with Jandi Tuff As Sky, assisted by Brian Connor. Kayla Prentice and Justaway were on the inside hanging on for second assisted by Chris Lems, flying late and splitting rivals was Mitchell McGee and Jessica Direct helped out by Jimmy Whittemore. Fourth place went to Kyle LaPointe with Sweet Karen assisted by Josh Marks, and fifth place went to Samuel Frarey with Daddys Jewel helped out by Adam Cappizano.

The contestants spent five days at Vernon Downs from July 6th through July 10th learning all the basic horsemanship skills from driving to equipment. When interviewed in the winner's circle following the race all of the contestants expressed how much fun they had all week at the camp.

"Ellen Taylor does a remarkable job in promoting the sport of harness racing to the younger generations by getting them involved and fully understanding the sport. These kids are truly the future of harness racing and we wish them the best of luck" said Jason Settlemoir, VP of Racing and Simulcast for Tioga and Vernon Downs.
