Rebounding from a miscue in the second heat of the Jugette, Western Ideal filly Good News Lady and driver Greg Grismore rebounded in the race-off with Sprig Hanover and took the two-horse event in 2:05.1.
Campbell left with Sprig Hanover from Post 1 and Grismore with Good News Lady from Post 2.
Campbell led the way through slow fractions cut in :31.4, 1:05.4 and 1:38.2.
Good News Lady was right on Campbell's helmet in the third quarter. When Grismore pulled his charge, the Jimmy Takter-trained filly responded and went on to hit the wire first in 2:05.1.
Good News Lady - Jugette Final
"She got a little bit grabby for Greg in the second heat. The filly had never been in two heats, and sometime they can be excited. So, we put on one of those sliding bridles [on her] so she was open behind the gate, and Greg said that she was perfect," Jimmy Takter said during a post-race interview with announcer Roger Huston.
"I just want to take the opportunity to thank the owners and Jimmy Takter for giving me a chance to drive this filly -- what a pleasure it is, and what an honour it is to win this race here in Ohio," an emotional Grismore told Huston.
"This is emotion for me -- this is a big thrill for me," said Grismore. "This is huge. It's not the Jug, but it's the next best thing. I want to dedicate this race to my dad. He passed away about a year and a half ago, and I know he is looking down at me pretty proud right now. This race is for him."
