Goldies Cam Takes Grand River Feature

Goldies Cam was sent off as the second choice in the wagering in Monday's featured race at Grand River Raceway, but she was the first one to the finish line for the duo of trainer Rod Duford and driver Bruce Richardson.

The four-year-old Camluck did away with eight female foes, including the odds-on favourite KG Katriona, en route to taking the checkered flag in this week's edition of the $13,200 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace.

Cammache Legacy took the field to the quarter pole in :27 seconds before backing down the pace on the way to the mid-way point in :56.4. KG Katriona, who was sent off as the 1-5 choice, was out and driving as the field moved past the half-mile marker. She had no problem clearing to the lead, and once in command she stepped past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.3.

Goldies Cam, who tracked KG Katriona before losing that rival's cover, battled the leader to the top of the stretch before pulling away over the final quarter of the mile. Her :29.2 closing speed helped her jet away from the competition in a time of 1:56.1.

It was more than four lengths back to runner-up KG Katriona. Alamode rallied from far off the pace to grab the show dough.

Goldies Cam, a homebred owned by Larry Pollard of Harrow, ON, has picked up six wins in this year's 21-start campaign while banking in excess of $55,000. She has banked in excess of $124,000 to date.
