Round two of the The Frisky Fillies Pacing Series was contested at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday, and apparently you had to be part of the Gassien family if you wanted to win.
Camdassiana wore down pacesetter Nothing Scares Me to take the first split for the duo of trainer Mark Winacott and driver Gord Brown, who joined forces for three wins on the card.
The three-year-old daughter of Cammibest, who is owned by Dan Gassien of Stirling, ON, drew off to win by a length over Nothing Scares Me. Rolling Hills Cam was a distant third.
The filly, who is 2-for-2 in the series, has put together a 4-1-0 record this season while banking close to $18,000.
Money River, who was a 1:58.2 winner in the opening leg of the series, returned to victory lane this afternoon following her 1:59.3 score for driver Reg Gassien.
The Bill James-trained daughter of Red River Hanover, who was unraced as a rookie, cleared to the top shortly past the quarter pole and kept on rolling to the one-length score over Byebyeamericanpie. Third prize went to Irish Seaside.
W G James Stables Ltd. of Blackstock, ON holds the papers on the three-time winner, who has stashed away just over $15,000 in her first 11 assignments.
Oppies Best was a popular winner in the third tilt for driver Aaron Byron, who guided the three-year-old daughter of Cammibest to a four and one-half length score in a time of 2:01.1.
The Steve Gassien pupil drew away from runner-up Farmers Tuition and Phoebe, who rounded out the top three.
It was a maiden-breaking win for Oppies Best, who has manufactured a 1-2-2 record from just six starts this season. She went 0-for-6 in her rookie year.
The $17,400 final of The Frisky Fillies Pacing Series goes next Tuesday at Kawartha Downs.
