Nine-year-old Historic mare Grand Garbo will be looking for her fifth straight Preferred victory when she lines up for Race 9 Sunday at Newfoundland's St. Johns Racing & Entertainment Centre, and her connections couldn't be happier.
"With only two race dates left on our 2008 racing season, we are very happy with her performance this year," said Charmaine Flemming, who owns the mare along with Gordon Flemming. "She is one tough mare with a big heart."
Grand Garbo will start from Post 4 in the five-horse event. What makes the dash even more intriguing is that the hard-knocking lass will be facing off against the track's top class of male competitors. Gordon Flemming will be at his student's lines and the pair have been gauged as the 2-1 morning line choice.
From 19 starts this far in 2008, Grand Garbo has amassed a seasonal record of 7-2-4. The mare has raced in 197 pari-mutuel events in her career, having compiled 31 wins, 33 second-place finishes and 23 thirds.
Sunday's first race post time is 2:00 p.m.
