Four Starzz Smiley had his connections all smiles after he captured Friday’s $3,240 Summer Sizzle Claiming Series Final at the Yorkton Exhibition.
The seven-year-old Grinfromeartoear gelding, who started from Post 2 for driver Laurie Bell, went coast-to-coast in Friday’s feature. Four Starzz Smiley set panels of :29, 1:01.2 and 1:31.3 en route to a three-quarter length triumph in 2:03.
O Js Boy (Brad Le Drew) had the pocket trip, but could not capitalize and settled for second while Rocky Skies (Allan Brooking) completed the top three.
Shawn Worthen trains Four Starzz Smiley for owner Joe Soloninko. With 13 starts this year, he has compiled a record of 5-3-1 and earnings of $5,264.
The victory with Four Starzz Smiley was one of four on the night for trainer Shawn Worthen. Also winning from his stable were Always Bizzy (2:01.2), Manwiththebigcigar (1:59.4) and Check Stop (2:01.2).
Kalahari Riff made it a six-pack for trainer/driver Kevin Siever in the $1,300 Open Pace. The four-year-old Bo Knows Jate gelding took command after the quarter and never looked back, winning by five and three-quarter lengths in 1:59.2.
Outlaw Watch Me (Brian Gray) was second while Kg Dna (Tyler Redwood) finished third.
Siever also owns Kalahari Riff, who is 7-3-0 in 10 tries this season, banking $8,271.
