Freshmen fillies took over Yonkers Raceway's marquee Monday night in the $197,567 New York Sires Stakes Mike Cohen Trot.
Four divisions went postward as the Raceway again remembered its (and NBC Sports') former PR director.
Odds-on choice Shes So Savvy made it look effortless for driver Howard Okusko Jr. in her $49,841 event, strolling home by more than three lengths in a time of 2:01. It was the fastest state-bred mile of the evening.
Jessica Okusko trained the daughter of Malabar Man for Purple Haze Stables LLC of Fairport, NY. The filly has posted four wins in her first five starts while banking in excess of $70,000 along the way.
Stephane Bouchard won consecutive $48,941 NYSS splits with Porque (2:02.2) and La Marchesa (2:02.3).
The former, a Plesac miss trained by Linda Toscano for owner Richard Balog of Saint Charles, IL, has won for the second time in five starts.
The latter, a daughter of Conway Hall trained by Carl Gillespie for owner Carolyn Atherton of Bronxville, NY, won for the third time in eight career tries.
Beachcomber and driver Jan Johnson (a last minute fill-in for Bruno Gerussi) sat pocketed to the pedestrian fractions of 3-5 favourite Contag Way in the final division. She pulled the pocket in the late stages of the mile and drew off in the lane.
The daughter of Conway Hall prevailed by more than three lengths in a time of 2:04.4. It was her fourth win in five lifetime starts.
She has banked in excess of $70,000 to date for the partnership of Arden Homestead Stable of Delhi, NY and Adelaide Skoglund of Key Largo, FL.
