Flamboro Downs' Confederation Cup program started with a thrilling stretch duel in the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace.
The 3-5 favourite, Kg Katriona and driver Mark MacDonald were able to get early command from post 2 and carved out early fractions of :27.2 and :57 before feeling pressure from Mike Langdon and Flibbertigibbet. That mare stalked the leader through the 1:25 three-quarter panel before reaching even ground at the top of the stretch.
Although pacesetter Kg Katriona dug deep, it wasn't enough to hold of the rush of the Bill-Robinson trained Flibbertigibbet, who stuck her head in front at the wire to win in 1:53.2, with picket sitter Cammache Legacy (Rick Zeron) grabbing show dough.
Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, Qc. holds the papers on the Albert Albert - Alba Girl mare Flibbertigibbet, now a three-time winner in five starts this season with nearly $185,000 in lifetime earnings.
