Flanagan Beauty Tries To Keep Streak Alive

Unbeaten Flanagan Beauty, the standout among Quebec-bred pacing fillies so far this troubled year, will attempt to extend her winning streak to five races when she makes her big-track debut Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome de Montreal in a $15,000 Distinction event, one of 10 stakes races for two-year-olds on the 13-race card.

"If they hadn't finally gotten around to presenting some races in Montreal, I would have sent her to Toronto. That's how good she is," said trainer Pierre Touchette.

Owned by prominent Quebec owner Michel Flanagan, the Electric Stena filly was a $33,000 auction purchase in 2007.

"I raced her sister, Odessa Angus, who had tons of speed but wasn't smart. This one's got great ability but she's also smart. You can race her any way you want," said Touchette.

With live racing halted this summer in Montreal, Flanagan Beauty qualified at Rideau Carleton and has done all her racing to date at half-mile Sulky Trois Rivieres, where she's won all four starts handily, the most recent in a career-best 2:00.1.

"She's got $13,750 made. In a normal year, she'd have $100,000, but what can you do?," said Touchette, who is pointing Flanagan Beauty for the Lucien Bombardier Stakes at Hippodrome de Montreal on October 6.
