Federal Flex Tries To Extend Streak

Federal Flex is quickly emerging as one of the season's most impressive two-year-old trotting colts.

Already four-for-four in his freshman career, the Carl Jamieson trainee is primed tonight to dominate his peers in the $514,100 final of the William Wellwood Memorial Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.

The recent beneficiary of a deal which saw prominent owners, Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld, buy a 20% interest for an undisclosed sum, Federal Flex - a son of Muscles Yankee out of the good race mare, Scully FBI - is the even-money favourite and will be leaving from Post 4 with Jody Jamieson in the bike.

His most likely challenger is fellow elim winner, Encore Encore, who crossed the finish line more than three lengths ahead of his nearest rival, Pointe Of Honour, and was second the previous week to Hibbler in the Champlain Stakes at Mohawk.

Richard Gillock of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, trains this homebred son of Broadway Hall, who has only been off the board once in eight lifetime starts. Encore Encore is listed as the 7-2 second choice in the morning line.
