Elite & Distinction Day In Montreal

Rookie trotting colts and geldings squared off in a set of Elite events at Hippodrome de Montreal earlier this afternoon, with each division carrying a $35,000 purse.

Quater Bayama pulled off a 9-1 upset in the opening tilt for the duo of trainer Jack Calce and driver Sylvain Filion. The son of Armbro Nash, who defeated My Leap Of Faith and Rocket Tino, froze the teletimer in a career-best clocking of 2:01.3.

Les Ecuries JYJ Inc. of St. Andre d'Argenteuil, QC holds the papers on the youngster, who has stashed away $25,744 to date.

Speculation rolled to an impressive 2:00.1 performance in the other split for trainer/driver Marcel Barrieau, who conditions the career winner of $51,954 for owners Conrad Leber of Jean Paul Charron of Quebec.

The son of Pistols N Spurs, who was sent off as the 1-5 favourite, drew off to win by more than four lengths. Max Lou took home the runner-up award and Tsunami Dream rounded out the top three.

An assortment of Distinction divisions were also contested on the Sunday afternoon program.

Tornade Jimmy (1:59.1) and Liberee (1:58.4) took their respective $20,000 affairs for the three-year-old pacing fillies.

CL Promise (2:02.4) captured her $16,500 tilt and Farah Modan (2:02.2) took home the lion's share of the $15,000 purse offered in her division for the two-year-old trotting fillies.

As for the two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, Charlie Drummond (1:58) and Majo Just Do It (1:58.2) cruised in their respective $11,000 assignments.
