This morning, Shadow Play's trainer Dr. Ian Moore told Trot Insider that the Little Brown Jug winner will not be supplemented to the Tattersalls Pace at the Red Mile, as The Panderosa colt is fighting a hoof separation.
"I trained him yesterday at Emerald Ridge Farm and he was super," Dr. Moore told Trot Insider. "He went an open quarter in 27 [seconds] all by himself and felt really good the whole way."
Dr. Moore, who is also a co-owner of the two-heat World Record holder, explained that Shadow Play is 100 per cent sound, but that he is fighting a hoof separation -- essentially the same separation that he developed between his victorious Jug heats.
"We came off the track after going the training mile and he had blown out the inside portion of his right front foot. The abscess that he had in that foot was so large and extensive that it destroyed the bond between the sensitive and non-sensitive part of the inside right front quarter."
Dr. Moore told Trot Insider that quite a large amount of blood had been coming out of the foot, but that he and blacksmith Jeff Boyd worked on it extensively yesterday. Dr. Moore said that though the colt is 100 per cent sound, the nagging separation has forced the connections to scuttle the idea of supplementing the black colt the Tattersalls Pace at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky.
"His hoof should be good in a few days time," Dr. Moore explained. "I spoke with the race secretary at Maywood Park this morning about supplementing him to the Windy City Pace (elims Friday, October 10). We also still have the option of supplementing him to the Messenger Stakes, which has elims (Saturday) October 18 at Yonkers (Raceway)."
