'Dewey' Delivers In Bluegrass Stakes

Three Bluegrass Stakes for sophomore trotters were contested at The Red Mile this afternoon and Deweycheatumnhowe dominated his $107,200 division.

Deweycheatumnhowe and Ray Schnittker left from Post 3, but it was Velocity Hall (David Miller) who posted the opening panel in :26.4. 'Dewey' brushed up out of the pocket and in a few quick strides re-took the lead.

The Hambletonian and Canadian Trotting Classic champ posted panels of :55.4 and 1:24.2 before pulling away from the field to win in 1:52.2 by six lengths.

Broadway Marquis (Brian Sears) came on for second with Stand Guard (Andrew McCarthy) finishing third.

Deweycheatumnhowe - Bluegrass

Schnittker trains and co-owns the son of Muscles Yankee with Theodore Gewertz of New York, Charles Iannazzo of Tappan, New York and the Deweycheatumnhowe Stable of Lexington, Kentucky. 'Dewey' sports a record of 19-1-0 in 20 starts with lifetime earnings totaling $2,800,680.

In the first $106,200 division for three-year-old trotters, Spam Spade (Andy Miller) lowered his lifetime mark to 1:53.3 in rein to Andy Miller. The Dream Vacation gelding popped the pocket and cleared the lead en route to the half in :56.3. Spam Spade battled the early pacesetter Holiday Credit (Ron Pierce) in the stretch, prevailing by half a length. Pine After Pine (David Miller) rounded out the top three.

Spam Spade increased his lifetime earnings to $156,020 with the win and improved his record to 5-3-2 in 19 starts for trainer Julie Miller and the Andy Miller Stable Inc. of Millstone Township, New Jersey,

Celebrity Secret delivered in the second $106,200 division with John Campbell in the bike. Make It Happen (Ray Schnittker) posted the opening panels, while Campbell advanced his charge on the outside, clearing after the half in :55.4. The son of Yankee Glide scored in 1:53 by over four lengths.

Make It Happen stayed for second with Voila American (David Miller) finishing third.

Staffan Lind trains Celebrity Secret for Celebrity Farms of New York and the Celebrity Secret Stable of Lexington, Kentucky. The bay colt who has amassed $942,956 in career earnings, sports a record of 5-9-1 in 22 starts.
