Christoforou To Return

In a discussion this afternoon with Trot Insider, Chris Christoforou, three-time O'Brien Award winner as Canada's Driver of the Year, announced that he will be making his return to the race bike in early October.

"I'll be returning to drive at Mohawk (Racetrack) on Sunday, October 5," said Christoforou, who in his career has recorded over 5,200 victories in the race bike and steered the winners of over $82 million in purses.

Christoforou last drove in a pari-mutuel dash on June 5 at Mohawk, and then on June 6 during a qualifying session at the Campbellville, ON oval. Christoforou has missed the time due to a non-racing-related injury sustained at his Campbellville residence where he hurt his back.

"I fell off a ladder doing some work outside my house," explained Christoforou. "I took some time off and then tried to come back in August. I trained some horses one day for Blair Burgess, but I came back too early, because I aggravated it.

"It was frustrating. I tried to come back as early as I could, but I just needed to give it time. The last thing that I wanted to do was come back, have the injury flare up again and then have to take more time off.

"I didn't want to come back, race two days out of the week and then have to book off the rest. It wouldn't be fair to the owners, trainers or anybody."
