Terry Kerr had the hot hands tonight at Western Fair Raceway, tallying three wins in the Middlesex County Pacing Series, including one aboard Trot 4 Kids Name The Foal Contest graduate Cam From The West.
Kerr picked up his first win in one of the four $9,000 fillies and mares divisions with Cam From The West.
The three-year-old Western Maverick filly carved out the opening fractions of :28.4 and :59.4 before facing a challenge from Dreamfair Shannie (Mark Williams), who took over the lead before the third quarter pole in 1:29.1. Cam From The West, however, came back on and held off Wildwind Destiny (Travis Bowman) by half a length for the win in 1:58.4. Dreamfair Shannie was third.
Unraced at two, Cam From The West notched her fourth win in five starts and lifted her bankroll to $15,250 for trainer and co-owner Darryl Holmes and owner Gerald Holmes of Meaford, Ont.
Topofherclass (Ross Battin) prevailed in her fillies and mares division in 1:59.4. The sophomore filly by Full Scholarship took a new mark with her third straight victory for owner and trainer Ron Sullivan.
The three-year-old Mach Three filly, Amazing Amber (Alex Lilley), also took a new mark in her division for trainer Scott McNiven in 2:00.4.
The two-year-old Northern Luck miss, The Grey Filly (Mike Sumner), broke her maiden in 2:00.4 for trainer and co-owner Ray Bunn.
Five more divisions were contested for colts and geldings with Kerr scoring two more victories on the card.
Fredsabulldog converted from a second-over trip for his first lifetime win in 1:59.
The three-year-old Fit For Life gelding, who is trained and co-owned by Richard McGlynn, got away fifth as J Ms Stealth (Travis Bowman) took command of the field. As Sauble Dewy (Mike MacNeill) made a first-over move, Fredsabulldog followed his cover through the middle panels of :59.4 and 1:29. In the stretch, Fredsabulldog collared Sauble Dewy with a :29.2 final quarter and won by a neck. J Ms Stealth was third.
Kerr also guided Billiam to victory in the following division for trainer and owner Chad Milner.
The three-year-old gelding left from Post 5 and carved out fractions of :29.1, 1:00.2 and 1:29.2 before pacing home in :30 for the two and a half length win in 1:59.2.
The pocket-sitter, Tresbest (Travis Bowman), finished second and Follow You Home (Tony Kerwood) came on for third.
The win was the son of Grinfromeartoear's sixth lifetime score.
Brawny (Mike MacNeill) also used front-end tactics to prevail in his split for trainer Danielle Soulliere. The three-year-old son of Cammibest won in 1:59 by almost six lengths. His fourth consecutive win improved his record to 9-2-0 in 12 starts.
The other divisions for colts and geldings went to the three-year-old Camluck gelding, Heart Racing (Mike Horner), in a career best time of 2:00 for trainer Mark Horner and Fortune Iron Will (Ross Battin), a sophomore by D M Dilinger, in 2:00.4 for trainer Larry Fitzsimmons. Both set new marks with their triumphs.
