Mohawk Racetrack had another full slate of babies qualifying on Saturday morning as there were 14 events scheduled at the Campbellville, Ontario oval.
On the pacing side, Grantville turned in the morning's quickest performance. The Totally Western – In Solid colt was hustled to the front by driver Mario Baillargeon in :30.3 before yielding to Keystone Nite Hawk (Chris Matthews) at the 1:01.2 half.
After following along to three quarters in 1:30.1, Grantville popped out of the pocket for Baillargeon and got by Keystone Nite Hawk late to score by a length in 1:58.4, covering his final quarter in :27.4. Ben Wallace trains and co-owns the colt, who was a $25,000 yearling purchase, with Joie De Vie Farm LLC.
Other winning pacers included Ponder Seelster (1:59.1), Contemporary Art (1:59.4), Arts Star (1:58.4), Adore Locke (2:00.3), Summer Hope (2:01.4), St Lads Popcorn (1:59.4), Desire (1:58.3), Strand Hanover (2:00.3), and Rogers Place (2:02).
Federal Flex was the fastest square-gaited baby of the morning. Driven by Jody Jamieson, the Muscles Yankee – Scully FBI colt sat the pocket behind The One In Charge (Blair Burgess) through splits of :30.4, 1:02.1 and 1:32.1.
Jamieson tipped him out of the two-hole down the lane and the colt responded with a four-length triumph in 2:01.2, trotting his final panel in :28.4. Carl Jamieson trains Federal Flex, who was a $100,000 yearling purchase, for 1140545 Ontario Ltd., Ken Henwood and Jeffrey Gillis.
Also winning on the trot were Dugan Creek (2:02.1), Reinsman Hanover (2:02.1) and My Friend (2:02.1).
