Artless Shows Resiliency

Accident? What accident? It would be understandable if one wasn't quite up to par professionally after being in a life-threatening situation. But don't tell that to Artless.

The juvenile Power Of Art gelding was in a precarious position on October 24, two days removed from a race over Northlands Park in Edmonton, AB. In the Northlands test, the gelding went to the front from Post 8 and laid all the fractions. He finished third.

When shipping back down to California, Artless' truck got sandwiched in a four-car accident one hour south of Edmonton.

Reinsman Steve Desomer owns Artless with his wife, trainer Vickie Desomer. Vickie spoke to The Sacramento Bee regarding the incident.

"Steve is fine, Artless is fine; the truck, not so fine," Vickie said in The Sacramento Bee article. "Artless got skinned up a little bit. He was a little hesitant to get back in the trailer, too. But once he got home, he was great."

Brushing off his close call, Artless was dead game Saturday, November 1 at Cal Expo, as the bay competed in a $15,000 Sires Stakes event. After taking a two-hole ride, the gelding fired out of the garden spot and went on to post an open-length victory in 1:58 over a surface rated 'sloppy.'

From six starts this season, Artless now has a record of 3-0-1, good for $15,312 in purse earnings.
