Anover Deal stole the show on Saturday night at Marquis Downs after capturing the $2,300 Markusson New Holland Open Pace – his second straight Open class victory.
The six-year-old gelding, driven by Brian Gray, sat fourth as Blue Star Royalty (Kelly Ducharme) powered off the gate to take the early lead. Anover Deal tipped out before the :57.4 half, advancing to the front as the field reached the third quarter station in 1:28. With a :29.3 final effort, Anover Deal triumphed in 1:57.3.
Blue Star Royalty, who endured broken equipment, finished a length and a half back in second. Kalahari Riff (Kevin Siever) closed well for third.
Anover Deal, who is trained by Gray and owned by the Forest Dean Racing Stable of Yorkton, Sask., has earned $91,659 in purses. The son of Western Ideal has made 15 trips to the winner's circle.
