Following an inquiry, the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) has withdrawn its official protest with respect to the eligibility of the horse Anderlecht to race in the Confederation Cup.
In accordance with the Rules of Racing, the protest was filed due to concerns over the circumstances surrounding the qualifying race held on August 13, 2008 at Georgian Downs.
The results of the inquiry involving the horse Anderlecht have determined that the horse was eligible to be entered to race in the Confederation Cup.
Under the Rules of Racing, the Judges at Flamboro Downs accepted the withdrawal of the protest, and ruled that all purse monies involving the horse Anderlecht can now be released.
The portion of the inquiry involving the role played by all officials and the racetrack in the staging of the race is continuing.
As stated in the original announcement of this matter, the open and accountable nature of this inquiry will ensure that the public interest is protected and that any appropriate actions can be taken as a result of what is learned from the inquiry. The ORC is committed to fulfilling its mandate of integrity, honesty and social responsibility.
