Always A Virgin and driver Brian Sears moved to the lead quickly in their first heat division of the Little Brown Jug and went on to record a strong victory in 1:51.1 for trainer Joe Holloway.
Hot Rod Mindale (David Miller) finished second and Won The West (Greg Grismore) was third. May June Character and pilot George Brennan finished fourth.
After being sent off as the 1-5 post time favourite and leaving from Post 3, Sears and the brown son of Western Ideal got to the front soon after the :26.3 opening quarter, carved the middle fractions in :54.4 and 1:23.2 and came home fresh to record the convincing victory in 1:51.1.
"He definitely wasn't on his hands and knees getting across the wire, that's for sure," Sears said when asked how much he had to use his horse in the first division.
"If you can be last to the front that's always the best spot to be, but this horse is very
versatile and he can definitely pass. Joe's [trainer Joe Holloway] done a great job prepping him for this race and he came into it super."
Owned by the Bluewood Stable, Roll The Dice Stable and Val Dor Farms, Always A Virgin headed into the Jug off a victory in the Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway.
