A Day Away stole the show in the featured $7,240 Prairie Lily Pace sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the SSBOA at Marquis Downs on Saturday.
With Deborah Manning at the reins, the four-year-old mare out of Mattduff used the inside post position to her advantage. A Day Away posted panels of :26.4, :57 and 1:26.4. She remained unchallenged as she paced home in :32 for the win in 1:58.4.
Longshot Nems Squirt (Clayton Braybrook) was two and a half lengths back in second with Alcars Xit (Philip Griesbrecht) rounding out the top three.
Jeff McLeod handles the training duties for Dr. Fred Kruszelnicki of Brooks, Alta. The win was her second in five starts this season. To date, A Day Away has earned $151,499.
In other action, Anover Deal rallied from off the pace to upset in the $2,000 Open Pace.
The six-year-old son of Western Ideal, who finished second in last week's Saskatchewan Standardbred Stake, prevailed in 1:58 by three-quarters of a length ahead of the pacesetter Shadow Promises (Glenn LeDrew) and the favourite Kalahari Riff (Kevin Siever).
The bay gelding scored his second win of the season and increased his lifetime earnings to $90,509 for trainer and driver Brian Gray and the Forest Dean Racing Stable of Yorkton, Sask.
