Golden Kronos and driver Jimmy Whittemore won the $7,500 featured trot on Saturday (Sept. 9) at Vernon Downs.
Bourbon Express (John MacDonald) was first to the quarter in :27.4 and then, he slowed things down using a :30.4 second quarter to be first to the half in :58.3. Golden Kronos ($6) made his move first-up going down the backstretch while Bourbon Express led to three-quarters in 1:28.1. As they reached the stretch, Golden Kronos took a short lead, but Bourbon Express battled back from the inside as Lepanto (Barton Dalious) came charging three-wide. Golden Kronos dug in and won in 1:56.1. Lepanto was second best. Telenovela (Claude Huckabone III) came up to finish third.
Golden Kronos is a nine-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven. He is trained by Chip Zombick for owners Michael and William Pozefsky and it was his third win this season. He now has 38 career victories.
Driver Barton Dalious drove four winners on the card. He finished first with Siros Blue Chip ($61), Warrawee Unique ($3.50), Let’sflytogether N ($9.70), and Odds On Brexit ($2.80).
