Perfect 'Peelers' Turning Heads

Two-year-old pacing filly See You At Peelers remained unbeaten when she won an accident-marred $44,820 New York Sire Stakes event last night at Batavia Downs.

The Bettors Delight--West Side Glory lass is now a perfect nine for nine.

Driver Jim Morrill, Jr. brushed her to the front at the quarter and she never had an anxious moment en route to an under-wraps score in 1:56.4. Dreamlands Roxy (driven by Stephane Bouchard) finished a clear second while Miss Annie J (Bruce Ranger) was farther back in third.

As JK Owhatanite (Steve Smith) sat in the pocket on the final turn, she got rough-gaited and made a break, which in turn caused a chain-reaction. Both Ray Schnittker -- who was driving Delight Party -- and Ray Fisher, Jr. -- who was driving City Delight -- were unseated. A Batavia releases stated that all horses in the incident 'seemed to be okay' although Fisher may have suffered bruised ribs. Schnittker was reported to be fine.

See You at Peelers is owned by breeder Christina Takter along with John and Jim Fielding. Jimmy Takter conditions the filly that in victory raised her lifetime earnings to over $141,000.

“She’s just unbelievable, she does everything so effortlessly,” Morrill commented.

Other NYSS divisions went to Art Major miss My Girls A Star, who wired her field in 1:56, and Riverboat King lass Grounded, who came off cover and was triumphant in 1:57.2.
