Carmen Auciello is the 12th horseman to take the mic in Grand River Raceway’s popular From Bike To Mic series.
The Fun & Frivolity Friday race night feature takes drivers and trainers from the barn and track to the announcer’s booth to call a race.
Auciello managed to juggle the gig with three starters on the race card, including two-year-old pacing filly Kamkar Kutie. She finished fourth in her Ontario Sires Stakes Gold elimination and advances to the Gold Final on Sept. 14. She drew the rail in the $130,000 event. The trainer also had a second with St Lads Kingpin in race seven.
Auciello's call in race eight was rock solid. Pocket-sitter Shes Alittle Shady and Anthony MacDonald came on in the stretch to overpower pacesetter Markella (Anthony Haughan), who finished third. Camadassiana (James MacDonald) finished in the runner-up spot.
The Stouffville, Ont. resident is on track for the best season of his career. He’s a winner of $1.8 million and 154 races, including 52 in 2012.
