Capt Jack Hanover repeated last start's winning tactics to win his second straight $11,806 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday Sept. 6.
Bluesville (Ron Harp) flew out of the gate and led to the first quarter in :27.1 with Capt Jack Hanover assuming the pocket for John MacDonald, where he remained through the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:25.1. As they reached the stretch, Capt Jack Hanover ($4.34) popped out of the two-hole as Twin B Kingston (Frank Affrunti) slipped through on the inside, making it three across the track. Capt Jack Hanover got by Bluesville in time to win by a half-length in 1:52.4. Bluesville had to settle for second over Twin B Kingston.
Capt Jack Hanover, a seven-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Current Hanover, is owned by Michael Kessler, Speed To Burn Racing, and MacDonald, who trains the gelding. He is now 38-for-127 lifetime with $352,883 in earnings.
