Ferrari Sena edged out 3-5 favourite Monkey On My Wheel by a neck to win this week's $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

When the wings of the gate opened, driver Sylvain Filion rolled Ferrari Sena to the lead from post nine into a :26.4 opening quarter with a parked out Shelliscape (Steve Condren) pressing on into the backstretch.

As Shelliscape cleared to command, 3-5 favourite Monkey On My Wheel (Scott Zeron) began her first over attack from fourth and took over command as the field headed to three-quarters in 1:22.1.

Meanwhile, Waasmula (Luc Ouellette) moved underway, but was not a threat as the mares entered the homestretch. However, Shelliscape and Ferrari Sena were as the former pulled the pocket and the latter found room along the pylons to close in on the leader.

Kicking home in :27.1, Ferrari Sena was able to get by Monkey On My Wheel right at the wire for the narrow score in a career-best 1:50.1. Shelliscape finished one length behind in third.

The five-year-old Bolero Master mare is trained by Richard Moreau for owner Serge Nadeau of Scott, Que. She now boasts six wins, including a sweep of the Girls' Night Out Pacing Series, and has finished no worse than third in all 13 of her 2013 starts.

Sent postward as the 9-2 second choice in the field of 10, Ferrari Sena paid $11 to win.
