According to a report on kvoa.com, an explosion Sunday, September 5 in a horse trailer at the Sonoita Fairgrounds in Arizona sent two teenage girls to the Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix.
The article cites Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada as saying that there was a slow propane gas leak in the trailer, one of the girls said it smelled funny so she went to light a scented candle when it exploded.
Eighteen-year-old Whitney Alderson and 15-year-old Rochelle Ochoa, both of whom were competing in the Break-Away Roping and Barrel-Racing events at the 95th annual Labour Day Rodeo, sustained burns in the incident.
"It was awful scary, door blew off, and windows blew out," witness Marty Latta was quoted as saying. "The girls came out they were on fire -- got them on the ground got them put out. Hopefully they are okay."
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Whitney Alderson and Rochelle Ochoa a complete and full recovery from their injuries.
