A compact field of six faced the starting gate in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 class Tuesday evening at Flamboro Downs, and Stonebridge Quest blazed the oval in 1:52.4 to win in convincing fashion.
Nick Steward was three-wide and driving with Stonebridge Quest, who was stung to the quarter pole in :26.2 by the tandem of Hex and Business As Usual. Steward and Stonebridge Quest trucked on and grabbed the lead going to the half. They went on to slice out middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.3 before using a :29.1 closing quarter to win by 1-1/4 lengths over race favourite Hex. Kyles Secret was third.

Bestulldotanite went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a 1:54.4 score in the $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 class. Paul MacKenzie hustled the Ed Laybourne trainee to the lead from Post 3 and together they led the field through panels of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:25.2 before storming home in :29.2 to secure the win. The pocket-sitting War Filly was a lapped-on second, with Katherine B taking home third prize.
JJS Stables of Grand Valley, Ont. owns the seven-year-old daughter of Geartogear-Naomi Seelster, who won for the third time this season and for the 26th time in her career. She recently surpassed $140,000 in lifetime earnings.
