Schooner Wins Inverness Invitational

Schooner started the season riding a win streak and returned to winning form on Sunday as he prevailed in the $4,500 Dr. Jim Remembrance Pace at Inverness Raceway.

Driver Alex MacQuarrie pulled Schooner from the pocket and rallied three-wide at the third quarter mark outside of the duelling leaders, favourite Brother John and first-up Watermelonwine, to prevail by half a length in 1:57.3. Schooner notched his 51st career win and returned $10.70 to his backers at the betting windows.

Anthony Beaton trains and owns the son of American Ideal, who has won five of his 11 races during his seven-year-old campaign, although Sunday's win was his first since the beginning of July (but fastest so far in 2015).

The victory in the afternoon's featured finale completed a driving hat trick for MacQuarrie, who also won with his own trainee Remember The Night and 63-time winner Cool Cam for trainer James Copley.
