Trainers Richard Rey and Aurel Vodon each posted training triples on Saturday, Sept. 5 at The Loop, with those conditioners picked up victories in the eliminations of the MSSBA Futurity.
Jimmys Rockin ($7.50) went wire-to-wire in the first $9,451 Futurity elimination, winning in a lifetime best 2:04 for driver Blake Piwniuk. Buddys Sneakers (Darryl Mason) was a length back in second with Trackn A Bandit (Michel Rey) completing the top trio.
A homebred of Aurel Vodon, Jimmys Rockin (Mr Rock-Passion N Pearls) picked up his first career victory in eight attempts.
Vodon and Piwniuk teamed up to score victories with Millys Filly (2:02.3; $7) in the second dash and Subzero (2:01; $11.10) in the eighth to complete the training hat trick. The Virden, Manitoba-based Vodon now sports seven wins this season and 15 lifetime after taking up training in 2025.
Peytons Premiere and driver Michel Rey picked up the 2:03.4 victory in the second $9,451 Futurity elimination, finishing second but being placed first after favoured Gracie Ghost finished first but was placed fourth due to interference while on a break. After the placings, Buzznlikeabumblbee (Richard Remillard) was the runner-up with Ohsingmebackhome (Darryl Mason) completing the triactor.
Owned by breeders Richard Rey and Janet Rey of St. Claude, Alta., Peytons Premiere (Track Master D-Nitrous Force) notched her second win in seven career starts.
Richard Rey trains Peytons Premiere, as well as Saturday winners Farroh Fawcett (2:05; $2.40) and St Lads Beat It (2:02; $3.60) to account for three trips back for photos in the winner's circle on the afternoon. His annual tally is now at 15 as part of a solid 0.482 UTRS.
Always Gonna B You ($6.40) closed out the 10-dash card in style, making history with a 1:57.1 win in the $4,100 Open Handicap to clock the fastest mile in the history of The Loop. Piwniuk engineered the winning effort for trainer and co-owner Trevor Williams and co-owners Tara Isman of Gladstone, Man. and Garett Isman of Calgary, Alta.
Leaving from post two, Always Gonna B You slashed through fractions of :28.3, :58.2 and 1:28 before clsoing in :29.1 to best former all-age track holder Take Out Hanover (Darryl Mason) by 12 lengths. Tami Blue (Clayton Braybrook) completed the triactor ticket.
A seven-year-old daughter of Always A Virgin-Passing Fancy, Always Gonna B You shaved one-fifth of a second off the 1:57.2 all-age record and four-fifths of a second off Outlaw Allie Oops' 1:58 record for older pacing mares.
Always Gonna B You is now a 28-time winner with $656,547 in earnings.
