With returning divisional rival Monalishi out of contention early, sophomore trotting filly Foxy Amee tuned up for a return to action during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Sept. 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
There were five qualifiers contested on Friday morning at Mohawk, with 2024 O'Brien Award winner Monalishi in her first on-track appearance since late June in the opener. According to trainer and co-owner Blake MacIntosh, Monalishi hit the gate before the start of the qualifier and went offstride for driver James MacDonald.
With a clean line needed to drop Monalishi in the box for the 2025 Elegantimage eliminations slated for next week, Monalishi is entered to qualify at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, Sept. 6. She was sidelined with a hoof issue after winning the New York New York Trot at Yonkers Raceway on Friday, June 27.
Foxy Amee is quite familiar with Monalishi, having faced her on numerous occasions over the past two seasons but never able to best that rival...until today. Driver and trainer Paul MacDonell settled Foxy Amee into third behind tempo setter Franks Angel (Bob McClure) through fractions of :30.3 and 1:00.3 before starting a first-over bid before the 1:30.1 third station. With a :28.3 final quarter, Foxy Amee forged to the front and fought off the pylon-skimming Wearing The Green (Doug McNair) by half a length with the mile timed in 1:59.2. Hey Ralphie (Phil Hudon) closed well to complete the top trio.
Not eligible to the Elegantimage, Foxy Amee (Muscle Mass - Highland Foxytrotr) is owned by Chris & Michael Storms of Picton, Ont. The six-time winner sports a mark of 1:52.4 with $241,561 in earnings from her 16 career starts.
