A top class winner at Truro Raceway two weeks ago and just a neck shy last Friday, trainer Danny Romo's Bettor On Than Off reclaimed the spotlight in Winners Over Handicap Pace on Sept. 5.
Sent postward as the 3-4 favourite from post five with Ernie Laffin in the bike, Bettor On Than Off lagged first-over moving out of an early five-hole near the three-eighths mark but kicked into high gear around the final turn and wore down the Robert Laffin-driven pacesetter Woodmere Ideal Art (:28.3, :59.1,1:27.2). Sprinting home in :28.2, Bettor On Than Off won Friday night's $2,500 eighth race by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.3. Justa Country Boy and Neldie MacDonald followed in third from the pocket.
Bettor On Than Off, a six-year-old Bettors Delight-Lights Go Out gelding, has won a quarter of his 16 races this year and now has a dozen victories lifetime. He paid $3.50 to win.
The victory in the nine-race card's feature event capped off a driving hat trick for Ernie Laffin and a training double for Danny Romo.
