Two-time O'Brien Award-winning trotter Fashion Frenzie will round out the lineup for the $1 million MGM Yonkers International Trot, representing Canada in the 1-1/4-mile showdown on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Yonkers Raceway.
Yonkers Raceway confirmed on Tuesday morning that the connections of Fashion Frenzie have accepted the final invitation to this year's Yonkers International Trot.
Trained by Richard Moreau, the Archangel-Striking Fashion gelding has four wins and two seconds while earning nearly $170,000 from seven starts in his five-year-old campaign. Last month during a three-race win streak, Fashion Frenzie went over the million-dollar mark in lifetime earnings, took a lifetime mark of 1:50.4 in the Free For All Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park and won the Honourable Earl Rowe Memorial Invitational for a second time at Georgian Downs. He will head to Yonkers off a fourth placing in a Canadian record 1:50.2 mile last Saturday in the Maple Leaf Trot.
Moreau trains the Grand Circuit stakes winner for Becancour, Que. owners Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard along with Mario Bourgea of Stanbridge East, Que.
Trot Insider has learned that regular reinsman Louis-Philippe Roy will drive Fashion Frenzie in the Yonkers International Trot.
Fashion Frenzie joins the field that includes another Canadian connection as United States representative Its Academic is owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. Former Mohawk Million champion Venerate will also represent the United States and Canadian record holder Jiggy Jog S will represent Sweden. Other international contenders include Aldebaran Zeus A (Australia), Bengurion Jet (Italy), Etonnant (France), Get A Wish (Denmark), Hierro Boko (Finland) and Vivid Wise As (Italy).
The $1 million MGM Yonkers International Trot headlines Saturday's card that includes a pair of $250,000 invitational races for older horses (Robert Miecuna Trot and Aria Pace) and the $1.8 million New York Sire Stakes finals. Post time is 12:15 p.m. (EDT). The International Trot is scheduled as race seven, with an estimated post time of 3 p.m.
