A six-pack of dashes comprised Mohawk Racetrack’s Tuesday, September 5 qualifying session, and an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner and fleet-footed stakes winner recorded victories during the morning session.
In rein to pilot Anthony Haughan, two-year-old Kadabra filly Smoke And Mirrors rebounded from a break in her August 31 Champlain division to score a 1:59.2 win for trainer Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman.
The career winner of two of five races and $74,000 in purses raced from off the tempo and closed for a one and a quarter-length victory. The bay filly is owned by Melvin Hartman (of Ottawa, Ont.), David McDuffee (Delray Beach, FL) and Little E LLC (New York, NY).
Smoke And Mirrors’ biggest win to date came in an OSS Gold event on July 25 at Mohawk, where she recorded a gate-to-wire, nose victory in 1:57.
Somebeachsomewhere Stakes division winner Hurricane Beach also put forth a victorious qualifying mile during the session.

The three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding hadn’t raced since the July 29 Adios final, where he was not a factor in the $400,000 tilt.
Hurricane Beach’s trainer, Luc Blais, was in the bike for the Tuesday qualifier, and the duo came from off the pace and sprinted off to a five and a quarter-length win in 1:54.4.
Moonstar Mission (1:57.1), Forte (1:58.2), Street Boy (1:55.1) and Ghost Dance (1:56.4) also recorded wins during the session
