Take On Da Boys pulled off a 20-1 upset in the $55,100 Diamond final of the Alberta Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday at Century Downs as she tracked the cover of heavy favourite Fire Watch and defeated that foe by half a length.

The elimination winners, 1-9 favourite Fire Watch and 6-1 second choice Blue Star Texas, went head-to-head at the third quarter mark, but Take On Da Boys was poised to strike second over and she kicked home in :29.1 over the sloppy track to steal the spotlight. Getter Queen Flush and Honey Booboolina, both 93-1 longshots, came on to finish third and fourth, respectively, over three lengths behind. Meanwhile, Blue Star Texas, who had carved out fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:29.1, faded to seventh-place.

Take On Da Boys paid $42.90 to win. Rod Hennessy trains the daughter of Jk Royal Flush and Doctor Ruth for Alberta owners Lorne Duffield of Edmonton and Diane Harries of Falun. Hennessy and Duffield also bred the filly with Randy Arden.

After going winless in nine races as a freshman, Take On Da Boys has won five of her 17 sophomore starts while never missing a cheque to earn $60,458 in this year. The win was her first against stakes fillies following a third-place finish in her Diamond elimination and third-place finishes previously in the Princess leg behind Fire Watch and winner Blue Star Texas.
