Freshmen Fillies Flock To Clinton

Five O.S.S. Grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies were contested over Clinton Raceway’s half-mile oval on Sunday afternoon, with Montenegro proving to be the speediest of the winners

With Mike Saftic at the lines, Montenegro shot to immediate command from her pole position starting spot and rolled the field through fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:28.4 en route to the 1:59 decision. It was 2-1/4 lengths back to runner-up Pocket Of Gold, with Ramadawn taking home third prize.

Louie Eftimiadis trains the daughter of Camluck-Cyber Wave for owner Gerald Mijal of Westland, MI. The victory gives her a 2-2-2 record from nine trips postward in her first year of racing. Her efforts have helped her stash away in excess of $71,000 to date.

Epoxy Queen extended her winning streak to three-in-a-row for owner/breeder Millar Farms of Newmarket, ON. The Eric Adams-trained Camluck filly, out of the mare Tropicana Chris, went coast-to-coast through panels of :29.3, 1:01.1 and 1:30.1 on her way to a 1:59.3 triumph with driver Brad Rae in tow. Lucky Taryn was second best and The Big Macher was third.

Epoxy Queen improved her 2010 record to 3-1-0 in six starts while boosting her bankroll to $41,360 in the process.

Modern Cinderella notched her second O.S.S. Grassroots trophy of the season thanks to a narrow score in 2:01.1 for the team of trainer Jim Ritchie and driver Trevor Henry. The daughter of Modern Art-Southwind Stellar rallied to win by a head over Ultimate Hope. Third in the field was Lyons Susan.

Bred and owned by Erv Abdulov of London, ON, the pacing lass now boasts a 2-1-0 record in four lifetime starts along with a bankroll that sits at $25,625.

Milliondollarfeeln gave Trevor Henry his second O.S.S. victory on the card thanks to a 2:00.3 score in her Grassroots assignment. The Million Dollar Cam-Feelin Moody miss, who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Jeff Thomson, survived a first-over journey to defeat Chappies Girl and Daisy Duke Denim.

Bred and owned by Jeff and Lori Thomson of Chesley, ON, the youngster owns a 2-for-4 record this season in addition to earnings of $15,700.

Carsons Maverick broke her maiden by winning her $24,000 O.S.S. assignment in 2:02.2. The Western Maverick-Cammelloni rookie came first-over and drew off to win by three lengths over Favorite Fantasy. B R Lucky Lady took home third prize.

Mike Horner mapped out the winning trip for the Mark Horner trainee, who is owned by David Carson of Listowel, ON. She has banked in excess of $13,000 to date.
