Richard Simard was the driving star of the night at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (September 4), winning five of the 13 races.
Simard began his winning crusade in the second race with Normand Beaudoin's Ruthies Pride ($8.70) and then reeled off three straight beginning in the seventh race with Randy Scott's Youve Got Bankers ($10.20), Terror Suspect ($3) from the stable of Pierre Ouellette Jr., and Maximus Deo ($5.90) for Chelsea Knapp. Goodmorningmister ($5.50), trained by Guy Chretien, capped off Simard's good evening with a final win in race 11.
Now with 60 wins at Rideau this year, Simard sits third in the local driver standings behind leader Guy Gagnon (84) and runner-up Louis Philippe Roy (74).
Brett MacDonald ranks fourth just five wins behind Simard after his own Sunday driving triple. Among his winners was Gary McDonald's 10-year-old gelding Mr Massimo ($2.90), who collared pacesetter Racing For Space at the wire in the $6,500 Winners Over Handicap Pace, scoring in 1:53.3.
Out Of The Hat ($5.10) was a repeat winner in the co-featured $6,950 Winners Over Handicap Trot, going wire-to-wire in 1:58.3 for trainer/driver Stephane Pouliot.
