Saskatchewan's harness racing industry is counting down the days until the opening of West Meadows Raceway, set for two weeks from today (Sunday)

.

"We are very excited for opening day," stated West Meadows Raceway President Jane Grainger. "It has been a long road and a tremendous amount of work but after three years of planning and building it is kind of special to see our first condition sheet posted. It's really starting to sink in now!"

The first condition sheet for West Meadows is available here and the box closes next Sunday, Sept. 11.

"Recently we hired Bill Houliston as our Race Secretary/Race Manager," said Grainger. "He was previously the Race Secretary for Queensbury Downs and we feel lucky to have him back with his extensive experience and knowledge of harness racing."

West Meadows has also added a very experienced team, with announcer Ken Forster and former Woodbine video camera operator Dave Hilchay to complement the experienced chart caller and ticket sellers. Grainger and the West Meadows team are thrilled to bring harness racing back to the Regina area.

"We are looking forward to working closely with the horsemen and the other racetracks to ensure the harness racing industry has a great future in Saskatchewan."
