After Hurricane Fiona forced a hiatus in live racing across the region, Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park returns to action with a stakes-laden afternoon program on Saturday (Oct. 1).

The capital oval has 16 dashes with a 12:30 p.m. opening post time featuring the Reliable Motors – Richard Campbell Memorial Invitational as well as the Joe O’Brien Stake for two-year-old pacing colts and the Lady Slipper Stake for two-year-old pacing fillies.

Twin B Tuffenuff has rail control in Race 15, the Richard Campbell Invitational in honour of the late Charlottetown lawyer, horse owner and fan. Twin B Tuffenuff is the morning line favourite after winning his latest outing in a Truro Raceway track record of 1:50.4 in the Johnny Conroy Memorial Invitational. Gilles Barrieau is back in the bike for trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown. Time To Dance (Marc Campbell) will be the sentimental favourite from post two as the pacer is co-owned by Brent Campbell, son of the late Richard Campbell. Completing the field are Batterup Hanover (Paul Langille), Merito Hanover (Jason Hughes), Rotten Ronnie (Redmond Doucet Jr.), Beachin Lindy (Stephen Charlton) and No Plan Intended (David Dowling).

The Post Time Picks like Time To Dance on top.

“When Time To Dance draws inside he doesn’t miss too many winner’s circle pictures. The rail horse will be very tough but Time To Dance will be on top of his game especially as he paces in honour of his former biggest fan.”

The Lady Slipper stake has a pair of $21,750 Gold divisions for rookie fillies in Races 5 and 14.

The fastest two-year-old filly in the history of Atlantic Canadian harness racing, Redlandbethanyjean has post three in the second Gold split with Brodie MacPhee at the lines for trainer Tom Weatherbie and owner Redland Farms. The daughter of Artspeak was a winner in 1:54.4 in her latest start at Truro Raceway to erase the track pacing standard for rookie fillies as well as lower Saulsbrook Alana’s 1:55.1 overall Atlantic Canadian record for two-year-old fillies set in 2013.

Speakingofshadow is the top choice in the first Gold split with Mike McGuigan training and driving the Artspeak filly for owners Josh and Mark MacDonald.

The Lady Slipper stake has $10,875 Grassroots divisions in Races 1 and 12.

Malignity (Langille) and Fishermans Son (Danny Gillis) will lock horns in a $18,600 O’Brien Gold division for two-year-old pacing colts in Race 4. The other Gold division lines up in Race 2 with Control The Moment colt Starship Glyde (Dowling) the top choice from the Earl Watts barn.

The Grassroots colt divisions are in Races 6 and 8.
