Two-year-old trotting filly West River Xcel romped to an eight length victory in a two-horse race for the Nova Scotia Stake title prior to the main wagering card at Northside Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Driven by Ken MacDonald for trainer Clare MacDonald, West River Xcel cruised through fractions of :34.1, 1:06.3, and 1:39.3 en route to a 2:10.4 triumph in the non-betting $3,280 stake with Dunmore Fling and driver James Ripley chasing her the entire way.

The victory was West River Xcel's third in a row and fourth in eight career starts. The Northern Bailey-Dunmore Skye filly, who has banked $12,940 thus far in her career, is owned and bred by West River Stock Farm of Antigonish, N.S.
