The 7th Annual Bobby Quillen Memorial at Harrington Raceway will get underway with two divisions in the elimination round on Monday, September 9.
A total of 11 horses entered this year’s event, which was won by Betterthancheddar in a track record time of 1:49.2 in 2012.
The top four finishers from each elimination will return to compete in the $223,500 Final on Monday, September 16.
Two-time Quillen champion Foiled Again heads the first division, which is scheduled as the seventh race on the program. Harness racing’s richest pacer of all-time, Foiled Again will start from post five in a five-horse field and will be challenged by stablemate Atochia, Sapphire City, Mcerlean and Dynamic Youth.
The second division (ninth race) features three millionaires, Linda Toscano-trained Heston Blue Chip, Ron Burke-trained Clear Vision, and Casie Coleman-conditioned Michaels Power. Hometown favorite Malak Uswaad N is the only horse in the field with a win over the track, after a sharp 1:52.3 triumph on Governor’s Day during the Delaware State Fair. Ron Burke-trained Escape the News, and Tony Alagna-trained Mel Mara complete the second division.
Final driver changes and morning line odds will be available at scratch time Wednesday at noon.
The race is named in honour of the late long time Delaware legislator Bobby Quillen, who was a racetrack regular and always looked out for the best interest of horsemen. He was also a member of the Board of Directors at various organizations, including Harrington Raceway and the Delaware State Fair.
