After notching back-to-back second-place finishes in recent weeks, Windsong Geant returned to Mohawk Racetrack on Monday and grabbed the whole enchilada in the $38,000 Preferred Trot for trainer/driver Rick Zeron.
The fleet-footed, five-year-old son of Kadabra-Early Secret used his tactical speed to march to the top after being parked by Julians Caesar past the quarter pole in :26.2. Once he grabbed the lead, Windsong Geant zipped through middle splits of :55.1 and 1:23.4 before using a :29.2 closing panel to seal the deal. Coco Lindy came first over and finished second, while Bullet enjoyed a ground-saving trip and grabbed the show dough.
The Brabant Stable of London and Fred Brayford of Alliston, ON share ownership on the 13-time winner, who now boasts a 5-4-7 record from 21 starts this season. He’s banked more than $260,000 this season and close to $550,000 to date.
