Windsor Welcomes ORC Action

Windsor Raceway has distributed the following release in response to Friday's announcement made by the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) concerning the immediate suspensions and fines resulting from an investigation into allegations that certain licensees racing at Windsor Raceway were conspiring to

affect the outcome of horse races.

Although Windsor Raceway was disappointed to recently learn certain participants were conspiring to affect the outcome of races at Windsor Raceway and at Michigan racetracks, we are pleased the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) today announced the suspension of those individuals determined to have been involved.

Upon learning of the allegations and investigation being conducted by the ORC and OPP, Windsor Raceway cooperated fully. The suspensions announced today are necessary to protect the sport of harness racing and the betting public from a select few participants. We are grateful the ORC has taken these steps before the resumption of live racing at the Windsor Raceway in the fall.

The ORC is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the sport of horse racing in Ontario. We fully support the decision of the Executive Director to, after extensive investigation, suspend those individuals found to have engaged in dishonest practices. We hope the public will today feel reassured that Windsor Raceway and the ORC are committed to the sport of harness horse racing and believe protecting its integrity is of paramount importance.

Windsor Raceway hopes to work with the ORC in the coming weeks and months to improve the quality of the Windsor Raceway horse racing product.

Any questions about the specifics of the investigation and the reasons for the suspensions should be directed to the Ontario Racing Commission.

While they work with the ORC in the coming weeks and months to improve the quality of the Windsor Raceway horse racing product maybe the same could be done to improve that facility?
