The inaugural edition of the John 'Buddy' Campbell Memorial highlighted the Thursday evening program at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and girl power prevailed

in the event for rookie trotters.

Red Pajamas equaled her lifetime mark by touring the half-mile oval in a time of 2:06.1 for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Blayne White, who shares ownership on the daughter of PJs Nabby-Rose Run Frances with Sandra White of Belle River, PE.

The nine-horse affair, which honoured the memory of longtime horseman and CDP starter, saw Howmacs Amigo open up a huge lead on rivals by rolling through early panels of :30 and 1:01.1. Campbell rated Red Pajamas in the two-hole for the first half of the mile before sweeping past the tiring leader, who still held a narrow lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:34.3.

Red Pajamas took over command shortly after third station and drew off to win by more than two lengths over Porter. Diamond Mine rounded out the top three.

Sent off at odds of 7/2, Red Pajamas visited the winner’s circle for the fourth time in just her seventh lifetime start. The $6,457 payday in the event, sponsored by Meridian Farms, lifted her lifetime earnings to $16,584.
