Canada’s winningest driver in 2025, Austin Sorrie, will make an appearance in his home province on Tuesday, Sept. 30 to compete at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

A Montague, P.E.I. native, Sorrie has racked up 293 wins so far this season in Canada to lead all drivers, while banking nearly $2 million in purse earnings on the year. A regular competiting at track across Ontario, Sorrie’s success has made him a household name in Canadian harness racing. On Tuesday, Island fans will get the rare chance to see the national leader back in action at his home track after a campaign where he leads the way for wins at The Raceway at Western Fair District in London, Ont., and Flamboro Downs in Dundas, Ont., and ranked in second place for driving victories during the recently concluded meets at Grand River Raceway in Elora, Ont., and Georgian Downs in Innisfil, Ont. Sorrie is listed to drive in seven races on the 14-dash program that gets underway at 6 p.m. (ADT).

While Sorrie’s return is the headline story, the $4,700 Preferred 2 Pace in race 13 serves as the night’s feature event. Brookdale Johnny gets top billing from post five for trainer Phil Sizer, with Paul Langille back in the driver’s seat. Owned and bred by Douglas R. Polley and Douglas E. Polley of Amherst, N.S., the five-year-old Rockin In Heaven-Brookdale Gia gelding was a winner last time out at Summerside. Inside starter Doc Awesome (Corey MacPherson) has been sharp for trainer Darla MacEachern, while Starship Glyde (Brodie MacPhee) looms a danger from post three for the Earl Watts barn.  Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) and First Glance (Jaycob Sweet) complete the Preferred 2 lineup.

The "Backstretch Beat" is siding squarely with the Sizer trainee to win the feature race: “Brookdale Johnny has been ultra-consistent at this level and his finishing kick makes him the horse to beat from a Sizer Barn that is firing on all cylinders. Another strong effort should put him right on top.”

Race four on the program is the National Day For Truth and Reconciliation Pace with Run For The Money (Brady Sweet) the top choice from post two.

The P.E.I. Matinee Finals will also highlight card with finals scheduled at 5:45 p.m. (ADT) as well as after race two and race four. The Province of P.E.I. Championship trophy will be presented to the A division winner after race four.
