Magical Mistress Stays Undefeated

The 2018 Atlantic racing season has yet to produce a two-year-old filly that can touch Magical Mistress as she remained unbeaten Saturday, Sept. 29 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Adam Merner was in the bike for the victory, the ninth of her undefeated career, for trainer Stephen Gass and owner Barry Martin of Sydney, N.S. The two-year-old daughter of Camystic was on top at every call in her $11,000 Lady Slipper gold division on her way to a 1:57.1 victory by over four lengths. Second went to Therealdeal while Howmac Sabrina was third.

Woodmere Tango claimed the other two-year-old pacing filly $11,000 Lady Slipper gold division in 1:59.1 over Elm Grove Nellie and Miss Dynamite D. Clare MacDonald trains and drives Woodmere Tango for owner Morah Kerr of Greenfield, N.S.

A pair of $7,000 Lady Slipper grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies were also contested. You Aint Dolly won her split in 2:00.4, while Clare Hall Hanover won her division in 2:00.2.

The Saturday program also featured the two-year-old pacing colts in the Joe O’Brien Memorial. The first $9,000 O’Brien gold division went to Purple Poet in 1:59.1 for trainer Robert Phillips and owner Kevin Harvey of Hammonds Plains, N.S. with Barrieau driving. The two-year-old son of Stonebridge Terror utilized a pocket ride on his way to a 1:59.1 win over Dusty Lane Cortez and Southfield Sandy.

Thisishowwedoit won the second $9,000 O’Brien Gold split in 1:59.1 for trainer-driver Danny Romo and owners Kevin Dorey of Middle Sackville and Robert Sumarah of Halifax, N.S. Race-favourite Red Dirt Boomer finished second while Woodmere Bolt had to settle for third.

In O’Brien grassroots action, A Grand Terror broke his maiden in his $6,000 division for two-year-old pacing colts with trainer Barrieau in the bike for the 1:59.2 score. The other $6,000 split saw Mall Peen Hammer visit the winner’s circle after stopping the clock in 1:59.2 for driver Kenny Arsenault and trainer Sean Dooley.
